Obituary of Barbara Lynn Schwartzberg

Barbara Lynn Schwartzberg, 76 of Lackawaxen, P, a Masthope Community member, and formerly of Glendale NY, passed away after an uphill battle with cancer Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Hackensack University Hospital, in Hackensack, NJ. She was a retired Assistant Building Manager in real estate and construction management who was dedicated to her career, adored, and respected by her colleagues, as well as a leader who touched everyone with her outgoing bubbly personality. She was a member of the color guard with St. Joseph’s Patron drum and bugle corps and St. Rita’s Brassmen. It was then where she met the love of life Teddy, who later became her husband, as well as forming friendships that lasted the span of her lifetime. She had a big heart filled with a selfless love for all people, family, friends, or foes. She had a deep love for animals, in fact during one period of her life she lived with four dogs and two parakeets. She showed her love through her talents of cooking, crocheting, and sewing, which she learned from Viola, her mother. She was a true icon for the traditional domesticated mother housewife role but accomplished this while holding career as well. She was a strong woman who was a great listener filled with an endless amount of words of wisdom which always guided those she loved in decision making. Her unique beauty goes beyond words, her smile and sense of humor would light up a room and fill it with positive energy. Those who knew her or loved her were the better for it. Barbara was the late daughter of William and Viola (Berger) Christie, she was born February 9, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY. She was married to the late Theodore Schwartzberg who served in the US Air Force. Barbara is survived by her devoted only daughter Lisa Abate and son in law Philip, two precious grandchildren Christopher and Jennifer, two loving sisters Regina Castorano and Sharon Howe, brother in law Henry Howe, three nieces Jacquelyn, Holly Jean and Allison Howe, 3 nephews Jayson, Craig and Travis Castorano, great aunt to Ethan and Preston Yankanin, her best friend and grand dog Rudy, and lastly she leaves behind a long list of amazing family friends who called her MOM.
