Obituary of Maryanne O'Connor Leguillou
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Maryanne O’Connor LeGuillou announces her passing.
Maryanne died peacefully on October 8, 2024, while at the Monroe County Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Maryanne was born on December 15, 1938, in New York City to Andrew and Mary Mollica. She grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan with her siblings, Andrew, Peter, Anthony and Linda. She attended Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan, graduating in 1957.
Following her marriage to Patrick O’Connor Sr she raised her four children in the Bronx New York while working for Bankers Trust. After a divorce and a move to Mohegan Lake, New York she married Genaro “Gene” LeGuillou. Proprietor of Gene Jewelers in Mohegan Lake. Until her retirement in 2018 she held the position of Treasurer for the Lakeland Central School District.
In 2020 Maryanne relocated to Lords Valley, Pennsylvania to be closer to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maryanne has most recently resided at The Gluco Lodge, a personal care home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Maryanne was a devoted and loving mother that would do anything for her children, Denise Vrana, her husband Dennis of Lords Valley, PA. Patrick of South Plainfield, NJ, Christine Hayward of Kunkletown, PA and Michael. She was predeceased by Michael and never got over the broken heart of losing him in 2000.
Maryanne loved the challenge of doing the New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle in pen. She enjoyed playing mahjong with her friends. She kept bingo dabbers in the cup holders of her car and was always ready to enthusiastically yell “Bingo”. As long as it was for a cash prize, no pocketbook bingo for her. Her favorite game to play with her family was Scrabble. To play with her, you needed to follow her rule of only using a “real” dictionary. That “fake” scrabble dictionary was prohibited in her home. The family still talks about her teaching her grandchildren to play poker with real money. She had no qualms taking her winnings from children. Especially when she had fronted them the cash! She also passed on her love of retail therapy to her daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters. She enjoyed spending the day shopping with them and then eating out.
Her passing has left a hole in the hearts of her grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Hayward, Debbie Petrecz, her husband Ryan, Thomas Hayward and his wife Amanda.
We will keep the memory of “Grandma Cookie” alive by continuing to share stories of her to her great grandchildren, Justin Hayward, Riley Ambio, Mollie, Hayward, Brielle Ambio, JJ Petrecz, Kayla Lozada and Jailyn Lozada.
