Obituary of Ralph S. Cobb

Ralph S. Cobb, 92, of Lords Valley, PA passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. The son of the late Frederick and Florence (Siemon) Cobb, he was born and raised in North Arlington, NJ. Ralph graduated from Rutgers University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, where he also played baseball and earned a tryout with the then New York Giants.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1952 – 1955.

Ralph’s career as a High School History Teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach spanned 40 years, first at Rutherford High School and then at Northern Valley Old Tappan from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member and past president of the Bergen County Coaches Association. Ralph received numerous coaching awards, including Bergen County Coach of the Year, New York Daily News All-Star Coach and an honor from The NJ Athletic Interscholastic Coaching Association for his outstanding contributions to the coaching profession. He was inducted into the NJ State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1975, the North Arlington HS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993, and the Northern Valley Old Tappan HS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.

He was married to the love of his life Nancy (Replogle) Cobb for 65 years. He loved nothing more than spending time with his beloved family and friends. Ralph was an extremely social man who never met anyone he did not like.  Once you spent time with him, he was your friend for life.

Survivors include his wife Nancy; son Douglas Cobb and his wife Margaret Ann “Peggy”; daughter Debra Ann Cobb, daughter-in-law Lauri Scoran; 8 grandchildren: Lindsay, Mackenzie, Whitney, Tim, Cassidy, Hayley, Bridget, and Ava; goddaughter/niece JoAnn Johnson and her husband George, nephews Dwight Murren and Richard Cobb, niece-in-law Kathy Murren, and many grandnieces and nephews.
