Among the best times of Terry's life, I can say without a doubt, were the wilderness trips with his friends from 1980s NYC, Upper West Side--the "Are We Not Men?" club (so-named because any prudent reconsideration of the daring trip plans they had set out for themselves was summarily squashed by the rallying cry, "Of Course, We Can Do It--Are We Not Men?")

This was the last picture of Terry, taken the day before he died as I was leaving his Bronx VA hospital room for home on Saturday, December 10. Although he wasn't in ICU and we had no idea he was about to die, something told me to take "one last picture," those words literally popping into my head as I was going out the door. I seemed to know what was about to come and not know at the same time.

Many wonderful memories of Terry over 4 decades. Most will remember hiis brave service to our country. He had many admirable qualitities. What stands out most was his patience with his children, being a great cook, his love of the outdoors, his willingness to take on the toughest aspects of our dad's end of life care, and his sense of humor. Rest in peace, Terry. I am blessed to have had our lives connected.

Dad, you showed me so many things were possible. You are existing proof that outside circumstances can be transcended from within, and it is apparent to me in so many ways that you’ve always demonstrated. You proved to be an amazingly caring and loving father, and you continue to do so from the other side. Thank you thank you thank you.

So many great memories with Terry, “The Pup”, as some of us called him. From the many many escapades in NYC to our road trip to Florida to his many visits and fun times in Maryland. One of my favorite people in the world. RIP, my friend.
