Obituary of Margaret Mary Maher

Margaret Mary Maher née Dwyer (known to her friends as “Peggy”), 78 of Milford, PA, passed away on January 29, 2022, at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ. Born in Manhattan to the late Philip Dwyer and Margaret (Lloyd). Peggy attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1960.  In 1961, Peggy married the love of her life, Charles Maher, and they lived together in Inwood, NY, until 1975 when Peggy, Charlie and their two daughters, Barbara and Ruth, moved to Pompton Lakes, NJ. While in Pompton Lakes, Peggy began working for Sears Roebuck & Co. (1976-2007) where she held numerous positions over the years, including credit/billing and auditing and worked in Willowbrook Mall, Maywood and Wharton.  She and Charlie spent a lot of time at the Pompton Lakes Elks (B.P.O.E. 1895) and it was a big part of their lives. They met many people who became lifelong friends.  Peggy and Charlie retired to Milford, PA, in 2002.  They made many good friends in their community, Conashaugh Lakes, through a weekly coffee group.   Peggy loved to dance, conquer word puzzles, spend time with her family, especially her grandson, Kjartan, and bowl.  She bowled weekly with her new PA friends up until COVID kept her home. She made the best pot roast ever!!  She went to every event her grandson was in; and listening to the Beatles together will always hold a special place in his heart. She was always up for any road trip – near or far. Peggy was a lifelong Elvis fan. And, she will be greatly missed.

Peggy leaves behind her two daughters Barbara Hennighan and her husband Joseph, and Ruth Maher and her son (Peggy’s grandson) Kjartan, as well as many nieces and nephews who all held a very special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Maher, in 2008; and her sister, Marie Cignarale, in 2012.

A wake will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  A Christian Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 101 St. Vincent Drive, Milford, PA 18337, on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev.
