Man Tim I just Saw you passed away. I have been thinking about you and I wanted to find you again and see if you were OK. I'm sorry we lost contact again. I hate that we went years and years, then I found you only to lose contact again. I should have helped you. Brother I'm sorry. I really wish I made a better effort to reconnect with you. We were best friends 00-03, all those fun times and shitty times in the field. We always embraced the suck and everyone hated when we said it all the time. We would scream it out loud during 12-15 mile road marches. We would scream it during 8 mile runs to the dog kennels. And we laughed the entire time people started cussing us out. I love you Scuba. I'll embrace the suck one last time. Carlos Maciel

Nora and family,
I am so sorry for the late response but I just found out about his passing last night. My condolences goes out to you and your family. He was a good and dedicated man! He loved you guys very much and looked up to his grandfather. I'm still in complete shock but I know he's in a better place! He will always be with you! He will be missed but not forgotten!

The chill big kid on the top step to the right is Tim, my cousin and my hero. He is posed in this photo with a bunch of younger cousins at a family gathering. I saw him usually once per year at our family fourth of July parties. I marveled as he grew up into a decorated soldier and a fierce and stalwart protector of his brothers in arms. He did not talk much about his experience, which is the mark of one who has seen too much, too fast, and too young. Tim loved his military life, his family and his Army buddies. His life was difficult, but he would say "embrace the suck". In other words, what Tim taught me is that the way to get an impossible job done, is to totally immerse yourself in it. Total commitment to a cause larger than yourself and sacrifice of self for others is the price paid on the battlefield and for ever more by the few, the wounded warriors who love us.

Dear Tom, What you wrote is incredible and beautiful. You summed up Tim perfectly. I appreciate every word more than you can imagine. Tim was a warrior and proud of his service. He loved every member of the whole family and talked about those parties and other family gatherings all the time. He asked about everyone. Thank you so much for writing this for him. Nora

Before Timmy was a soldier and a man, he was a little boy with whom I shared many wonderful adventures. Starting with going to the South Street Seaport as a toddler, to flying a kite, getting totally in character at the Renaissance Faire, trying not to be frightened by the fireworks show at Rye Playland [with his two buddies], exploring the Orchard Beach nature preserve and having hot dogs at City Island.
To Timmy I was always “Cousin Mary Ann”. I will keep all these fond memories close to my heart. May he be at rest now.
