Ken & Cindy have been dear friends for more than 45 years. In fact, they were in our wedding 43 years ago. Many a night we would visit on the river & play pinochle while listening to Jefferson Starship & Queen. And yes, we would water ski, too. Geography and busy lives have kept us apart but we often think of them and laugh or smile remembering the good times spent with the Frees. Rest In peace, Ken and Cindy, cherish your memories. Love, Sue & Al

To the Free family,
Kenny was one of a kind, there’s no other way to describe him other than an all around great human being. He was always at the heart of the party. So much of my childhood was spent at your home and I’ll never forget how much Kenny would go out of his way to make sure we all had a perfect time, whether it was in the pool or on the river and anywhere in between, playing cards or him teaching us stuff on the computer. He was welcoming, caring, kind, always wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. He’s the type of person this world could use a whole lot more of, and I consider myself lucky to have known him. I am very sad that the last time I got to see Kenny was quite a few years ago now, but he lives on in my childhood memories every time I come back to PA and take that drive up River Road. They say you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory...Kenny created a lot of moments for us all and he will live on in many, many memories.
With love,
Ashley Champagne

I spent many years working with and for Ken as an engineer and later to fill his role at Gulbrandsen as he transitioned into retirement. He was always patient and understanding, kind and encouraging. We traveled the world together where he not only found success as a businessman, but his smile and warm personnality made him a friend to all of those that he met. For years after he stopped working, I would still have customers ask "How's Ken? How is he doing?" He left an indelible impression with those he touched. He loved his family deeply and I remember the pride and love that he felt as he shared what was happening at home, with his children, and with the arrival of each of his grandchildren. We kept in touch after his retirement, and I always appreciated the conversation; catching up and hearing his voice and his laugh. He was not only a mentor to me, but a friend. He is no longer with us on this earth, but he lives on in our hears, and his impact on me and those he met will never be forgotten. He will be missed. - Ron Hatchell

KenFree———After reading his obituary it said it all. A great neighbor, but most of all a wonderful friend. You could always count on Ken to be there when you needed him. We had wonderful times on the river or just sitting around at his place or ours. It was comforting to know that Ken was there for any of us. We will miss him. Always smiling, always a gentlemen. A smart and wise fellow. A pleasure as always to have known him. Peace and blessings dear friend. Our condolences to Cindy, Kenjr Daniella and family. Ben andAnn

I was deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. I owe a lot to Ken for what he did for me. He gave me opportunities to excel and he believed in me and he saw what I never saw in myself. His leadership and elegant engineering are reflected in my skill set as a leader. I will always remember how we joked around and made each other laugh during our time at the plant in Allentown.
I enjoyed talking and catching up with him at meetings while working at Gulbrandsen.
And how could we forget our camping trip and party at the Free’s house!
Denise and I send our condolences to you and your family.

I worked with Ken off and on for 30+ years. Ken was one of those rare and valuable Swiss Army Knife leaders. He was equally at ease innovating a new glass hood design in the shop, helping a customer solve a problem or presenting a business plan to the company leadership team which allowed him to contribute something of value to just about every situation he encountered. Ken instructed me on the value of “elegant engineering” which involved designing processes that were simple, effective and low cost. He probably designed the most efficient Anhydrous Aluminum Chloride in the world during the time he operated it. He was also a trustworthy business leader and held the respect of people around him. I admired the way Ken could see humor in just about everything and once he started laughing, all those around him would join him in laughter and smiles. Ken loved his family and spoke of them often. I am fortunate to have known Ken and I am thankful for what learned from him.

Most of my memories of my uncle Ken were when I was younger. I remember I was always so excited to go visit Ken and Cindy because they had a pool. Ken always made sure that the water was the perfect temperature so that I could spend hours in it without getting cold. One visit that my sister and I did alone without my mom, uncle Ken took us out on the river to entertain us for hours with tubing and water skiing. When I got older the visits were not as often, but it was always so enjoyable to see him during thanksgiving and watch him fix something with uncle Bill and play with his grandchildren with a smile on his face. His warm presents will be missed very much.

Ken Free....generous, gracious, a true friend and neighbor who always had kind words, quick wit and a smile. Ken could fix anything so we referred to him as MacGyver. Well MacGyver even in your passing you will, in time, manage to fix the broken hearts of all of us who loved you because we know you are at peace and paving the way for us to join you again someday soon. To Cindy Ken Jr Danielle & family our deepest condolences. Love Joe, Lorraine & Joseph

I have known Ken through business involvements Over a period of About 35 years. While we created and developed so many aspects of his plant operation, my best and long lasting memories are the wonder-filled lunches and parties that we would have!!! I can’t remember a single time that we got together that I didn’t laugh until I cried! Ken was always up to joking, making fun of himself or just enjoying the moment. Even after we both retired in 2015, we got together at least two or three times a year with Dave Escott and Ken solely for the purpose of laughing and catching up with each other’s family’s. I do and will miss Ken terribly but will always cherish the challenges, fun and friendship

Ken worked in my manufacturing company for over 10 years and he was an upbeat and collaborative team player. He had a great sense of humor and worked as hard as anyone. He used his mechanical abilities to help solve customer problems, which helped us grow our business. Much of his global travel was for us and Ken was well liked wherever he went in the world. When I traveled with him, I tried to get him to explore local cuisine but he always preferred a ham and cheese sandwich. I made a ham and cheese for lunch on Friday in honor of Ken. Peace be with you gentle man. Eric Smith

I have the fondest memory’s of water skiing with my uncle Ken on the River. He always had the warmest smile on his face and a welcoming presence. Seeing how much ken loved to play with his grandchildren always warmed my heart.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and how much he loved his family.

Cindy, Danielle, Kenny Jr, and the rest of the family,
I am so sorry for your loss and the whole family is in my thoughts and prayers. Kenny was one of a kind and was one of the most generous and kind people I have ever known. Even though I was younger I remember all the pool and boat days, snowmobile rides, and countless other memories spent together.
Kenny and Cindy were always ready for a good time and if it was a nice summer day I just knew that’s where we would end up. The memories I gained at your home growing up will never be forgotten and neither will Kenny’s laugh and smile. I’ll always remember him with a smile on his face because honestly I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t.
Kenny and the whole family will always have a special place in my heart. Rest in peace Kenny.

Cindy, Danielle, Kenny Jr. and family,
Words can't express the sorry that we feel on the loss of such a good friend! Ken was one of a kind. The good times that we shared with Cindy and Ken are to numerous to list. From first meeting them back in 1982 when we were all renting next to each other and watching Danielle and Jr. grow up. The great times on the river, many many pool days, the many card games of spades. A memorable trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon which will never be forgotten! The list could go on forever. Ken was always there to lend a helping hand whenever needed. When we built our house he was always there doing whatever needed to be done. Our hearts ache for you Ken! Rest in Peace!

I have so many fond memories of Ken or as we always called him- Dad. He knew I wasn’t always the best influence on his daughter- hey I liked to have fun and brought Danyelle along for the ride a few times-but I was always greeted with a smile and hug! Ken understood. He listened, he genuinely cared and I’ll never forget his kindness. I loved going swimming and an hour turning into hours at the Free household. It was a place that I could always go and felt welcomed and supported. Even when we were grown it was our meeting spot to see Danyelle and I got to sneak a visit in with her parents. Ken and Cindy will forever be special to me. Thank you for all the laughter and love Ken. Much love to all of Ken’s family. He will be sorely missed.

I have so many memories of Ken growing up.. from skiing behind the checkmate, cruising in the boat, and like many of Danielle's friends practically living there spending many weekends there. He was such a loving Dad and like a 2nd father to me. My heart goes out to the family and to all those that knew him as this is devastating news .... just because time passes doesn't mean you lose that bond. I remember one Birthday I made him a cross stitched cup cake as a kid and Danielle's mom told me it got to him that i took the time to do something like that for him. I'm so glad I did as he was an amazing Dad and I was fortunate enough to know him and spent part of a great childhood with my parents and him along the river. The river is what brought us together . I remember getting in a boat at my parents house in Jersey to hang out with the Frees. Ken would help me get tied up to the dock. He was very caring to both me and my brother Mike. Thank you Ken you will be missed. So glad I got to see you last year and you got to see my Ian. I know Tyler got to meet you too along the river as we always just stopped if we saw you by the dock.or at the neighbors outside. Thank you Ken for all the good times. We all loved you. With a heavy heart... Michele Scheer

I have so many memories of Ken growing up as your house was like a 2nd home for me and he was like our dad too. He always welcomed me to your house and many of us girls spent a lot of time there! I remember when you got your pool and the pool parties! He had the biggest smile on his face, he took me around the yard, showed me the pool shed, the fence and his grand plans that he had! I loved sitting at your kitchen table with him and your mom for hours when we got older and just chatting about his career and my career and life in general. And your wedding reception Dan!! We all laughed so much with him that night. Sending big hugs and love to you ALL! Much Love, Marijo

As we sit here reading this beautiful obituary about of dear neighbor and friend Ken, its hard to believe you are gone. The neighborhood will not be the same without you. We have been neighbors with Ken and Cindy since 1982 and yes Ken was always the one you could count on to be there when you needed a hand. We will never forget all the memories over the past years...boating on the river, floods, power outages, snow storms, or just sitting on the front porch talking. The greatest gift was we all knew we could count on one another. And so now with a sad heart, our dear friend and neighbor we say goodbye but always know we will always remember your good heart and miss you terribly.
Rest in peace.....Love Jim and Linda Malachowski
