I could share tons of memories of Mrs. Lane. She was my favorite teacher and one of my favorite people in the whole world. She was always encouraging to me and more than anything I appreciated how real she was. I recently defended my dissertation and though she isn’t here on the physical earth to see it, I dedicated it to her and everyone who ever reads it will know how very special she was.

Helene was a roommate to my Mother-in-law Marie Romano at Belle Reve in Milford in 2015. She took care of Marie when none of our family members were available to be with her and she grieved right along with our family when Marie passed. She became a friend to our family and I still have all the Christmas and birthday cards sent from her. God bless Helene and condolences to her family and friends. In loving memory from The Romano family.

Helene was the sweetest woman. We would share stories and laugh about how similar we were in our world views. A great lady!

I was a student in Mrs. Lane's class in 1990. Our whole family loved her! She taught me the meaning of kindness at such a young age. I went on always remembering her words and trying to be like her with others. Sending love and prayers to the entire family, she will never be forgotten!

Mrs. Lane was my first grade teacher about 26 years ago. I still remember her to this day as she had such a positive impact on my life. She showed and taught me what kindness was at such a young age. My parents did not speak much English at that time and I can remember her always being so caring and understanding. Truly an amazing person and I’m so sad to hear about her passing. Sending her family lots of love and my deepest condolences. May she Rest In Peace.

Sending my love and deepest condolences to Mrs. Lane's family! My class was the only year she taught second grade! Mrs. Lane was the reason I wanted to become a teacher! Mrs. Lane was my cooperating teacher when I was student teaching. I learned so much from her as a child and student teacher!! We kept in touch every Christmas all these years later!! I will truly miss hearing from her at holiday time! May she rest in peace!!

All 3 of my daughters had your mom in 1st grade. They loved her and learned so much from her- not just school subjects but respect & manners. She was full of joy & cared for each of her students as if they were her own. Many days they came home smelling of her perfume from her special hugs for them.
My friend Lynn & I went to see her sing, accompanied by your dad. My heartfelt condolences to your family.

It saddens me to hear of the passing of Mrs. Lane. She was for me, like she was for others, my favorite teacher and my inspiration for teaching. She was fun and encouraging, but most of all, she was loving. She helped me through a tough year in first grade when my grandmother had a stroke and was left paralyzed and unable to walk or talk and when my twin brother was sent to another school after he was classified as needing special education and was there for the good times when I became an older since. She wrote me letters and was thrilled when I became a teacher and a mother. The last life event that I was able to share with her was when she came to my wedding in 2009! Recently, I have been thinking a lot about her worrying that I would find out she had past or that she wouldn’t remember me. I should have reached out despite my fear. Well, at least she can be with Chet now! Sending my love to the family and hoping she knew how much I truly loved her. (I am the girl standing right next to her, where I could have stayed forever if I was allowed to.)

Oh Mrs. Lane. She was one of the very best! I had her for first grade and had surgery in September and was out of school until December and she would come to my house to tutor me after school was over! I even remember she bought me a little Winnie the Pooh doll. She was the most loving, kind and cheerful woman I’ve ever met. That was also the year another first grade teacher died suddenly mid-year, so it must have been so difficult for her and yet all I remember is how loving and joyful she was.

I had the opportunity to know her in recent months, and I'm deeply saddened to see this. I had promised to keep in touch with her just a couple of weeks ago, now I wish I could've said a proper goodbye. She told me she always felt a connection to God in her life, and that she wanted me to know she could tell I was gifted with a similar connection. It felt sincere, coming from her, and I won't forget that.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I had Mrs. Lane as my first grade teacher. She has always been my favorite teacher. She was kind and patient. We had the best Halloween celebration in her class. I can close my eyes and be sitting in her class room. She always looked so pretty and I loved her hair. Seeing the picture that is posted I see she hasn’t changed a bit. She was a beautiful, caring woman and will be missed. My thoughts are with you all.

I had Mrs. Lane as my first grade teacher way back --45 years ago!! I still remember the things we did in class, loving to go to school, how special she made each child feel, her Halloween birthday. Most of all, I remember her heart and caring nature. She nurtured my love of school. She ignited a fire in me and put a thought in my head that I could be just like her, a teacher! As a 6 year old, I struggled with that decision because I really wanted to be an ice cream man! I am happy to say I've been teaching in Bergenfield for the past 27 years, thank you for that!
