Dorothy was my very special aunt. She was my mother’s sister and part of my l life forever.
(Isn’t it odd how WE feature in eulogies about someone who is no longer with us? Perhaps it’s natural to be struck by OUR loss.)
I’ve selected 2 photos of happy memories with Dorothy.
Dorothy and her sister Eleanor (my mother) used to meet at Gene’s and one year I joined them. I was so pleased to share in their special connection with Gene’s. That was one of the last times Eleanor went into “the city” (from Brooklyn) and possibly for Dorothy too (from Jersey City, where she spent most of her married life).
The second photo is of Dorothy with her finished canvaswork piece of a still life. She had it framed and the note she wrote on the back was to me on my 50th birthday.
In many ways Dorothy was more like an older sister as we were only about 13 years apart.
She introduced me to theater and musicals in the movies.
I will miss our long distance conversations until only recently (PA to Australia).
My dearest “Auntie”, you will always be with me in my memories.

My dearest aunt meant so much to me. As u can see in the photo it goes way back!!! She was always a phone call away. She was the positive one who talked me through a lot! She was caring and always asking about us and really was concerned. She would always tell me about all the saints she is praying to for me and my family. I feel so empty but am glad she is free of any hardship. I wanted to pick up the phone so many times and call her. I miss the relationship we had terribly and have to say in my eyes she was so strong and independent for as long as she could be. I will always remember our dates in the city for dinner as well as meeting her for plays and just getting together. I remember one time we met at Carmines in the city. She ordered her red wine and she didn’t care for the glass they use to serve their wine !! She said I don’t enjoy drinking wine from a juice glass! Oh boy! I miss her so much. I will keep in mind all the positive words she would say to help comfort me when the need be. I will miss my best aunt and always will be in my heart. I can use her positive words right now to help my heart from hurting. I thank her for being there for me…..I will still be talking to her and hope she can still hear me. Love you .
