Obituary of Candace Lee Brown

Candace L. Brown, 66, of Shohola, PA, passed away on July 25, 2024, after a fierce and brave battle with a long illness. Born on February 28, 1958, in Sussex, NJ, she was the daughter of Katherine Bucknam and the late Clarence Bucknam. 

 

Candace was a devoted mother and an amazing grandmother. Family was always her favorite thing. 

 

Candace is survived by her five children: Kathy Bucknam and her fiancé Brian Babcock of Matamoras, PA; Stefanie Brown and her fiancé Nick Peruso of Milford, PA; Jason Brown and his wife Melissa of Port Jervis, NY; Melody Brown and her fiancé Paul West of Milford, PA; and Crystal Ledbetter and her husband Bernard of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her fiancé Asa Boyd Jr., her loving mother Katherine Bucknam, and her beloved Pug, Ginger, at home. Her brother William Conklin of Port Jervis, NY and sister Deborah Melia. Additionally, she leaves behind her stepchildren Asa Boyd III and his wife Jennifer of Florida and Jayson Boyd and his wife Brianne of Franklin, NJ. And her inherited daughter, Kelly Yates of TN. 

 

Survivors also include her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. They include: Noelle, Madison, Jason Jr., Hall and his girlfriend Mar Posey of Milford, PA; Jason Jr., Douglas, Charles, and Alyssa Brown of Port Jervis, NY; Brionnca Mitchell of Binghamton, NY; Myla West of Milford, PA; Heidi Brown of Liberty, NY; Kyra Hunter of Flanders, NJ; and Kevin, Shortae, Anastasia, Harmony, Demiliyah, Ariyah, and Asher Ledbetter of Phoenix, AZ. She also had grandchildren through love: Gabe, Madeline, Billy, Caitlin, and Grayson, as well as great-grandchildren Kaira, Kenlin, and Blake. And many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

 

Candace cherished every special moment with her grandchildren, always going out of her way to be there for them. Their favorite place to be together was always Grandma’s house. 

 

Candace was preceded in death by her father, her brother Dennis Bucknam, who she was eagerly waiting to meet in Heaven, her sister Rose Scymanski, her brother Leon Bucknam, her children's father Dennis Brown, her son-in-law Clifford Hall, and her great grandson Jake Jr., as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her family, who she cherished so deeply and who left this earth before her, will undoubtedly welcome her warmly at the gates of Heaven.

 

Candace's love for Elvis Presley and her cherished memories of Wildwood at the Jersey Shore were a testament to her vibrant spirit and zest for life. She found immense joy riding shotgun on the motorcycle with the love of her life, Asa. 

 

Her warm and generous heart touched the lives of so so many and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Candace leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unforgettable memories. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

A private cremation has been entrusted to Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, PA. A celebration of Candace's life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 1PM to 5 PM at the Rosa Fleming VFW Post 161, 47-51 Owen St. Port Jervis, NY.
