John Flynn, beloved patriarch of his family, known for his unwavering dedication to both his professional career and his loved ones, passed away on June 19th, 2024, at his home in Lords Valley, PA.
John was born on January 6, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY to Thelma (née Oliver) and Joseph Flynn. Following his graduation from high school, he proudly served in the US Army becoming a crew chief at the Nike Missile Base in Old Bridge, NJ. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College, CUNY and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business. His educational accomplishments laid the foundation for a distinguished career as a finance executive and consultant who held senior roles at leading companies including Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Meyers Squibb, and Ogilvy & Mather. As a consultant he led major projects for corporate and government clients including Goldman Sachs, the US Patent and Trademark Office, and the Veterans Administration.
John met the love of his life, Kathleen (née Tormey) Flynn, on his birthday in 1963. They married that same year, and thereafter he devoted his life to her and their family for 60 wonderful years together. John had two children and four grandchildren of whom he was exceptionally proud. He worked hard to provide a beautiful home and life for his family, loved to host large family reunions, and took his family on many amazing vacations in the US and around the world. He was a devoted Yankees and NY Jets fan, a voracious reader, military history buff, giver of important life advice, singer of hard to sing songs, and a champion raconteur.
