You were not supposed to die yet, Daddy. Is miss you so much that it hurts. Physically hurts. I got my memorial tattoo for you. For the first time, I was ambivalent about my tattoo after it was done...I realized that it wasn't the tattoo or placement--just, I'd rather have you in life than a memorial tattoo. "Father Feeney and I [have been] investigating the mysteries of The Church of Rome."
I helped a student analyze a Vietnam Era song--his teacher gave him a list. As soon as I saw Barry Sadler's "Ballad of the Green Berets," I said, "I can do that one!"
The last thing you bought yourself was a National Collector's Mint Buffalo and Indian Head coin. Do you know how many of those you have!? LOL I also found your York Cross of Honor, which I would've laid with you during the wake had I known where it was. It's hanging over my bed with Pop's mother's or grandmother's Rosary.
Every moment of every day, I feel your void. I remember you smelled like fresh powder and sunshine. When I kissed your lips, I could taste hints of coffee and tobacco.
Ever Faithful,
Your Oldest Daughter, Linnea

I was lucky enough to work with Doug at Thunder Mountain School. Doug was great to work with and work for as my principal. We went on many adventures and always had a laugh and a smile at the end. The world is less of a good place without Doug in it!! God rest your soul my friend.

Thank you, Jim. You are so right. I fondly remember you from Thunder Mountain. It really messed with me as a teenager that my dad has two friends: Jim Morrison and John Waine.
He loved working with you and Thunder Mountain. He always said you were a good guy. Sorry--I was pretty young.

Daddy, I miss you so much. The world is not the same without you. My life will never be the same without you--the first love of my life and powerful ally in life. Thank you. I know you are in Paradise. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Phil. 1:21. You gained Heaven, and I live with Christ, but I miss the hell out of you, Old Man.
Ever Faithful,
Your Daughter Linnea
PS: Thanks for making sure I have "another" Joe DiMaggio before going Home.

Memorial of Douglas Houskeeper – March1, 2024
I had the privilege of working closely with Doug while I served as the Director of Mt. St. Joseph Residential Treatment Center for Children during the late 1970s and the early 1980s. At the same time, I also was privileged to work with his wife, Pam, at Catholic Family and Community Services and Mt. St. Joseph’s as we both served as clinical social workers. Doug served as a pillar of strength, dedication, commitment, and professional integrity as we developed our first on-ground Montessori school at the Center. He rejoiced as the children quickly adapted to this intuitive approach to education that also helped us to take into account their unique emotional needs, given their previous history of abuse or other traumatic experiences with neglect, conflict, etc.
Gratefully, I was able to continue my friendship with Pam and Doug, despite the fact that I later was called to service outside the United States for the past years. I know how much Pam, her daughters and their spouses will miss Doug and how much they will grieve his physical loss from such a tight family circle. But I am sure that Doug continues to protect them and will be embracing them with all his love from his new home that God has prepared for him in Paradise.
Eternal rest grant unto Doug Houskeeper, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful department, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. May the angels lead him into Paradise, to the new and eternal Jerusalem. AMEN.

Doug was such a kond man who went out of his way dor other people. I will always emember f him as such. He was a good friends with my father, they hunted together for many years though they live quite a distance away from each other, ne and dad are doen here in Warren County New Jersey. We'll a few years ago I was moving abd Doug volunteers to cone all the way down here with his truck and help me move. That really helped me out of a ham. He didn't have to that but that's just the kind of guy he was. I am sorry for his friends and family. The world has lost a good one but God has welcomed him into his welcomed him into his beautiful kingdom

I am so sorry to learn about Doug’s passing. There has always been a soft spot in my heart for the man who gave me my first teaching job, provided many down to earth discussions with laughter and tears and who always believed in the abilities of special needs kids. He had a huge heart not only for people, but for the many animals that came into his life. Pam, he loved you and the girls so much! May you always sense he is nearby. For those of us who got to spend some time with him in this journey of life, may we continue to foster his love of nature, gentle spirit and belief in the underdog! Rest in peace Doug.

I worked with Doug at Newton High School. He was gentle man who I learned how to “deal with the person” from. Thanks Doug for the help in the classroom and the lifelong lessons I took from your help! Condolences to Doug’s family.
