Obituary of Peter A. Kestler

Peter A. “A Great Guy”   Kestler, 86, of Shohola, PA passed away on January 30, 2024. Peter owned and operated Peter A. Kestler Well Drilling Company in Shohola, PA and was a devout member of St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, PA, He was a member of the Shohola Volunteer Fire Department, long time Shohola Township Planning Commission member, founder and first owner of the Sparrowbush Oil Company and a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1961 to 1963.

 

Peter was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting locally and in Canada and Maine. His favorite fishing spots were Black Lake and Anchorage, Alaska. He was very proud to obtain his pilot’s license but was even more proud when he built his two airplanes. Flying out of Sullivan County International Airport, Peter enjoyed taking friends and family on flights in his Piper Arrow and Coyote planes.

 

The son of the late William and Mary (Jordan) Kestler, Peter was born on January 24, 1938, in Sussex, NJ. On March 31, 1962, Peter married Mary M. (Michell) Kestler. They remained happily married up until her passing on November 25, 1998. 

 

Peter leaves behind brother, David Kestler; sisters Jane Gregory, Virginia Carey, Diane Kestler; Best friend and companion Lois Devereaux; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Peter was predeceased by his brothers Alvin and Harry and his sister in law Margaret Michell.

 

Friends may call at the Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford Street, Milford, PA from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Saint Ann’s Church, 125 Richardson Ave, Shohola, PA on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 10 AM  with Rev. Edward Casey officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola, PA with military honors.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shohola Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 135, Shohola, PA 18458.
