Obituary of Alfred G. Ostrander

Al Ostrander rejoined his Lord in Heaven on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York.

The son of George and Ada (Rapp) Ostrander, he was born on November 12, 1935, in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Al proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

Al was married to Mildred (Wilkinson) Ostrander on August 6, 1957.

Prior to his retirement, Al worked as the Supervisor of Grounds for the Bergenfield School District, Bergenfield, New Jersey.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Al could often be found tending to his garden, watching and cheering on the Yankees, and after no longer playing tennis and gold himself he did like watching these too. Al enjoyed  family gatherings, dancing, fellowship with friends and good food. He always had a smile to give and a helping hand to lend.

He was a devout Christian and active member of the Milford Bible Church, for many years and prior at Pascack Bible Church and Calvery Lutheran in New Jersey.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mildred Ostrander; children, Alfred Ostrander, Jr., Susan Nilsen, Debra Dzurak and Michele Gould; grandchildren, Matthew Dzurak, Alfred Ostrander III, Jennifer Gallo and Christopher Dzurak; great-grandchild, Lily Grace; siblings, Ronald Ostrander, Harry Ostrander, Dolores Bell and Bruce Ostrander and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Ostrander and Ada Ostrander and sisters, Marie McCraw and Evelyn Maier.

Cremation was private at the convenience of the family.

Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Al Ostrander, 11:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Milford Bible Church, 110 Foxcroft Dr, Milford, Pennsylvania 18337 with Reverend Rolf Buchmann officiating and military honors to follow.
