Obituary of Floyd Joseph Ridley
Floyd Ridley of Canonsburg, PA went home to be with his Lord on May 27, 2023 at the age of 78. Floyd was born on November 3, 1944, in Milford, PA. He was the son of Walter and Helen Ridley of Milford, PA.
From a young age, Floyd struggled with alcoholism. He spent forty years hopping trains across the country and living on the streets and in tents, earning him the name “The Renegade”. In his words, while recuperating from many illnesses in the hospital, God told him he had a job for him. This changed his life. When he recovered, he began his mission of helping “street people” and alcoholics. He was proud of his 20 plus years of sobriety. He worked at Greenbrier Treatment Center as a drug and alcohol counselor. After retiring, he started his own ministry to addicts and the homeless in Washington and Allegheny counties in PA. He collected clothing, distributed food and prayed with anyone who was willing to talk with him. He spoke at several rehab facilities all over the U.S. about his experiences and getting sober. He frequently spoke at churches and AA conferences about God and his recovery. He has written two books about his recovery and God’s Grace in his life. Floyd was an active member of the Champion Christian Center in Washington, PA and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold O’Brien, Arthur Ridley, Billy Ridley, John Ridley and sisters Marilynne Hunt and Gertrude Smith. He is survived by his children Jennifer (Dennis) Wieberg, Shauna Whipps, and Chris (Catie) Voshell; grandchildren Kayla Champ, Ashley Wieberg, Andrea Wieberg, Jacob (Summer) Ramirez, Katie Bell, Georgianna Bell, Mariella Whipps, Gage Voshell, Mason Voshell, great-grandsons Lucas Long and Tyler Champ; brothers Robert (Erma) Ridley and Richard Ridley, sister Patricia Taylor, sister-in-law Jane Ridley, and numerous nieces and nephews
