Obituary of Sylvia Straway

Sylvia Straway, 76 of Dingmans Ferry, PA., passed away February 26, 2023 at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, Fredon, NJ.

The daughter of the late Paul and Eunice (VanSickle) Franek, she was born May 1, 1946 in Newton, NJ.

Predeceased by her husband Raymond L. Straway in 2014 and daughter Deborah Ann in 1978, Sylvia is survived by daughter Amy Leek and her husband Bill of Dingmans Ferry, PA; son Raymond “Guy” Straway and his wife Rachel of Dingmans Ferry, PA; brothers Paul Franek and his wife Diane of Lafayette, NJ, David Franek of Wantage, NJ; five grandchildren, Morgan Leek and fiancé  DJ Moreau of Purceville, VA, Taylor Leek and fiancé Ronald Ramirez of Leesburg, VA, Jaci, Raymond, and Guy Straway of Dingmans Ferry, PA; best friend and neighbors, Ronnie Jean and Bill Wagner and her beloved cat Chloe.

Sylvia worked at Big G Truck Repair in Newton, NJ as a Bookkeeper before she and her husband went dairy farming in Sparta, NJ on the Baldwin Dew Dairy Farm. They later moved their farming to Vernon, NJ. Sylvia worked for several years at Gill’s Delicatessen in Wantage, Clear Messaging Service in Newton, NJ and the NJ Agriculture Census Bureau before retiring in 2008.

Sylvia enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crossword puzzles, 5 o’clock coffee and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Branchville Fire House, Railroad Avenue, Branchville, NJ at 1 PM.
