Helen Elvanah Schoch (nee Freer) graduated to her eternal home on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Helen's journey began when she was born to George and Helen (Grote) Freer on Jan 14, 1931, in Walden, NY. In 1951, she married Charles L Schoch after they met at the Port Jervis Fireman’s parade the previous summer. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before his passing. She is survived by her 5 children: Terri Schoch, Charles Schoch, Jeff (Sherie) Schoch, Patti (Chad) Martell, and Paul (Audrey) Schoch, and her 11 grandchildren: Danielle (Jay) Schoch Meinecke, Joshua (Karly) Schoch, Amanda Schoch, Heather Schoch, Noah Schoch, Eli Schoch, Alec (Miranda) Martell, Marisa Martell, Jacob (Hannah) Schoch, Adam Schoch, and Ben Schoch, and 2 great-grandchildren, Nova Meinecke and Raya Schoch. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Carmine Caccamo as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter in law, Cindy Schoch, grandson Matthew Schoch, and her great-granddaughter, Leila Sage Meinecke.
As a resident of the city of Port Jervis for over 70 years, she was known as “mom” to many of the local children that she babysat or taught in Sunday School. Her gentle and quiet ways portrayed her love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her legacy of faith, hope, and love will extend to her children, grandchildren, and all others who were blessed by her example.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Georgina Miner and the staff at Alliance Senior Home for their dedication and care to mom in her last few months.
