So very sorry Ramona - thinking and praying for you and your family. Although I didn't cross-paths with Steve in our adult lives, I do still have nice memories of him when you two were dating and Rachel and I were just kids and he would come to the house to see you. He was always helping with something. He could have easily ignored us kids, but he always took the time to chat or play with us even if just for a little while or to be an extra in our kick-ball game. Clearly he was a great guy and will be terribly missed. With deepest sympathy ~ Karen David

It’s hard to put into words what a kindhearted, generous, loving, joyful, larger-than-life kind of person Steve was, and will remain, in our hearts. I first met Steve when I was 5. We moved into the cabin down the road, and were in awe of Steve, who even as a young person was generous, kind and full of wisdom. He taught us city-slicker kids how to appreciate life in the woods. Steve always had time for kids, and would let us hang around him every chance we got. I’ll always remember when my brother stepped on a bee hive by the pond. Steve grabbed me in a bear hug and stood still while the bees flew past us, and chased down my poor brother who got more than one sting. We idolized Steve as kids and now my own kids have grown up also idolizing Steve. It’s impossible to count the many kindnesses he has shared with my family- he had such a warm and lighthearted spirit. Whether sharing a chat, building something amazing out of a pile of lumber, roofing a shed in 15 minutes flat, splashing in the pond like a teenager, taking the kids for rides on lawnmowers, quads, backhoes and trucks, or celebrating together (Nana's 101st birthday in photo), time spent with Steve was always full of laughter and light. He was a truly decent and honest human being and will be deeply missed. Deepest condolences and so much love and light to you Mona, Travis, Blake, Sue and Don.

I have known Steve since he was 16 yrs old when we (my spouse and children) became neighbors on Deer Run Road. When I think of Steve my heart is filled with gratitude, joy and many smiles. Gratitude for his generosity of time and sharing his many fix-it and building skills; joy because of his love for family and enjoyment of my children and grandchildren and their love and
attraction to him. He taught them fishing and hunting skills as well as letting them sit on his backhoe which thrilled them. Can't get much better than that! Then there are the many smiles and laughter-- Too many to count. But there is that time when I
heard the Barred Owl hooting (photo #4). I grabbed my binoculars and went into the woods to get a glimpse of it. Only to see & hear trickster Steve mimicking to perfection the call of the owl. Some of my biggest smiles were shared when he enjoyed my chocolate chip cookies. I couldn't resist finding excuses to give him "doggie bags" of cookies in order to be rewarded with our shared laughter. Well Steve, the best is the gratitude, the joys, and the many smiles I treasure because of knowing you.
A deep bow to the life you shared with all of us.

Hoffman. A constant yet gentle force. The journey began with sudoku and everything popped off from there. The Sing Sing family hurts but we are most grateful to his PA for sharing him with us. Family first for Hoffman, ALWAYS. He set the standard both professionally and personally. We are forever grateful you shared him with us. Rest easy, my friend. Rest.

Steve and Mona have been our Neighbors for many long years. I myself, lived in Bucks County, PA, but Steve was very close to my Mom and Dad who lived in the house I now occupy. When my Father passed, Steve kept an eye on my Mother and helped out a lot. He continued to keep an eye on both myself and my Mom. The day I had to bury my Mom, my Brother was taking a shower before leaving to go back down to Bucks County where we were burying her, broke the handles on the shower and I had to turn off the main water supply as we did not have shut-off valves. It was January and very cold. I called Steve to see if he could see about fixing the problem. His reply was, go and take care of your Mom and I’ll have it fixed by the time you get home. He was true to his word. He has been the most wonderful Neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed. We loved you Steve and are very sad to see your life cut short. Many condolences to Mona and the boys.

I have called Steve my friend for almost 40 years. Ever since he took a 9 year old kid he barely knew under his wing, and showed him how to bass fish. And then showed me how to butcher my first deer.
Knowing such a genuinely happy, generous and kind person is a true blessing. Steve was gifted with God's Grace, and he shared that Gift with everyone who knew him.
We are heartbroken at his loss. But thank God that we knew him.

My sincerest condolences to the Hoffman family & friends, seldom are we blessed with the opportunity to share moments in life with people that impact ours in the way that he did. Humble, noble, attentive, wholesome, caring, strong, are words that come nowhere near and at best can vaguely describe the enormous person this man was. There is a void that cannot be filled in your absence my friend, so many moments, I thank you for all you did, your time, your wisdom, your friendship, you were there when I was a rookie and the union wouldn't sit with me, but you did I will never forget that. I wish we had more time together my brother. C.Polanco

I was his little brother and he was my big brother. A piece of me died. No words can do justice to what he meant to me from the time I was 4 years old to now. He was bigger than life to me. Like his church family said this week. He entered the gates of heaven and heard well done my good and faithful servant. I love you Steve and I will miss you.

Scotty - The first time I met Steve, he was up on a roof with a big smile on his face … and shooting a nail gun at me! He was ALWAYS smiling!
Eric and Heather - Will remember a dinner at Captain D’s in Colorado Springs with Steve when they were just small kids. The laughter became so outrageous, management asked them to leave!
Anita - Will remember when the Don, Sue, Steve and Mona visited in December 2020 and shared a beautiful day in the Colorado sunshine with food and friends!
Steve was a true friend, a Godly man and a great American!

Trained by HOFFMAN. He was very personable, professional, funny & had a heart of gold. He stood up for you when you were right. If he was dissatisfied or not happy with your actions, he spoke up & got over it. That's the godly way. He was so many things wrapped up in one, I could go on forever. He is memorable and will never be forgotten in my mind or anyone's minds at Sing Sing. We miss him even though he was retired and we will continue to miss him even though he passed. Until we meet again, I will continue to miss you. I am not able to attend services but I will be there in heart and mind.
