Obituary of Christine Marie Nistad

Christine Nistad nee Gallagher, 60, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday after a yearlong, hard-fought battle with lung cancer.  
 
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Nistad-Schwarz, and her husband, Thomas Schwarz, of Milford, PA; her four grandchildren, Alexander and Benjamin Nistad, and Victoria and McKenna Schwarz; her four sisters, Jacqueline Shanley and her husband, Mike, of Honesdale, PA, Pamela Gallagher, Eileen Duffy, and Brenda Gallager, all of Staten Island, NY; her niece, Kristan Kutch of Honesdale, PA; her nephews, Michael Shanley of Staten Island, NY, and Michael Duffy of Brooklyn, NY; great nieces Samantha and Lauren Kutch; great nephew Jason Kutch; and close friends Niki Parks, Lisa Piano, Erik Nistad, and Anne Nathan. She is predeceased by her cherished son, Erik Kevin Nistad, and her mother, Marie Gallagher.  

Born on Staten Island, Christine graduated from Susan Wagner High School and moved to Pennsylvania. She put herself through dental hygiene school at Luzerne County Community College and enjoyed working at various dental offices around the tri-state area.
 
An avid Elvis fan, she enjoyed spending her free time with her daughter and four grandchildren. Over the summer, she made her final trip to Long Beach Island with her daughter and grandchildren, staying at the same motel the family had frequented since her children were young. Christine celebrated her 60th birthday in August with her family and friends.

Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on October 21, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 111 East High St., Milford, PA on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 at 11 AM with Msgr. Robert Carroll officiating. Burial will take place at Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, PA , private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Christine’s memory may be made to the Shohola Elementary School “Sunshine Fund”, 940 Twin Lakes Rd., Shohola, PA 18458.
