Obituary of Arthur R. Smith

Arthur R. Smith, 94, of Matamoras, PA passed away at home on April 6, 2021. He was a retired lineman and maintenance worker for Orange and Rockland Utility Co. for 26 years.  Art was a proud veteran, having served his county in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis, NY and the Matamoras Fire Department, Matamoras, PA.  Art was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Church in Matamoras, PA.

 

The son of the late Chester and Eva (Silsby) Smith, he was born on June 5, 1926 in Matamoras, PA. He was married to Gertrude (Ridley) Smith for over 42 years.

 

Art leaves behind his wife, Gertrude; daughters, Carol Long of Millsboro, DE; Karen Boomer of Hilo, Hawaii; Lisa Bickel of Huguenot, NY; stepchildren Michael Stead of Dingmans Ferry, PA, John Stead of Hawley, PA, Maggie Merlucci of Toms River, NJ, and Joe Stead of Shohola, PA; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Art was preceded in death by his first wife Doris (Campbell) Smith; son, Craig and sister, Isabel Peters.

 

Viewing will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on April 13, 2021 from 1 to 2 PM.  Services will follow at 2 PM with the Rev. Joseph Manarchuck officiating. Due to the current COVID-19 state guidelines a limited number of guests will be allowed in at a time.

 

Cremation was private at convenience to the family at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford Twp., PA. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, PA, announced at a later date.
