Obituary of Alice McFarland
Alice “Mickey” E. McFarland, 87, of Hawley, PA passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Belle Reve Senior Living, Milford, PA. Mickey loved animals all her life – especially horses and her beloved Westies Curlique, QE and QE TOO. She retired after forty years as a Veterinary Assistant and Business Manager in Peekskill New York. Mickey was passionate about the dangers of Lyme Disease and volunteered in educational programs with the Poconos Environmental Education Center.
Mickey enjoyed square dancing and clogging for most of her life. Over a span of 50 years she was a popular square dance caller for several clubs in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania such as the Kittatinny Rangers and the Pelham Promenaders and was a founding member of the Friendly Squares.
Mickey loved her retirement home in Hemlock Farms and the friendships she made with her neighbors. She delighted in the wildlife at “Mickey’s Mansion” especially the deer and bear that would come to her front porch throughout the year. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Milford, PA, active in the choir and as a volunteer with Bingo, Square Dancing, and other activities.
The daughter of the late William Alexander Aloysius and Alice (Courtois) McFarland, she was born on September 26, 1932 in Chicago, IL. She was predeceased by her brother and sister, William McFarland, Jr. and Sister Clairvaux McFarland. The family relocated to Bergenfield New Jersey, where Mickey graduated from high school, then Ossining, New York.
Mickey leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Michael McFarland of Eagle River, WI, William McFarland and wife Kristi of Palos Park, IL, Kathleen McFarland Imbo of Manteno, IL and Suzanne McFarland Nikodem of Denver, NC; 35 great nieces and nephews and 4 great grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Milford, PA on Wednesday July 22. 2020 at 10 AM with Rev. John Boyle officiating
Memorial donations may be made to Poconos Environmental Education Center (PEEC) or St. Vincent de Paul Church.
