Joseph M. Baum, 78, of Dingmans Ferry, PA, passed away peacefully at Lehigh Valley Hospital Pocono in East Stroudsburg, PA, on Monday, February 23, 2026. A man of quiet strength and profound loyalty, Joseph’s life was defined by his service to his country, his dedication to his craft, and his unwavering love for his family.
Born on January 2, 1948, in Newark, NJ, to the late Joseph and Anna (Videyko) Baum, Joseph grew up with a spirit of resilience. He answered the call of duty as a young man, serving with distinction as a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran. He served three courageous tours in the Special Forces “Brown Water” Navy aboard a PBR (Patrol Boat River), a testament to his bravery and commitment to his fellow sailors.
Upon returning to civilian life, Joseph brought that same work ethic to his career as an Operating Engineer for Local 825. Known for his skill and reliability, he helped build the world around him before enjoying a well-earned retirement. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Vincent DePaul Church in Milford, PA, where he found community and peace.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Farano) Baum, with whom he is now reunited. His legacy lives on through the large, vibrant family he helped foster.
Joseph will be remembered by his children, Mark Colalillo (Lynnette), Scott Colalillo (Bonnie), Craig Colalillo (Francis), Jennifer Veneziano (Dominic), and Michael Baum; grandchildren, Giuliana, Lorenzo, Josie, Donnie, Andy, and Dianna; great-grandchildren, Maia, Gabe, Michael, Indigo, Sol and Max; sister, Linda Buset; cousins, Paul Roman and Walter Roman; along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In accordance with Joseph’s wishes, cremation will be private.
Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
