On Monday, February 2, 2026, our beloved son and brother in arms, Valentin (Val) Joseph Hunsicker, passed away at his home in Milford, PA. He was 29 years old.
Born in Romania, Vali came to the US in 2000 at the age of four and on his first day here he ran down the hallway with a penny in his mouth laughing until it got stuck in his throat and his Dad had to give him the Heimlich maneuver. From that moment on we knew we were in for a handful. He always kept everyone on their toes.
His second family became the Melgarejo's where he grew up under owner, Michelle's care. As he grew into his teens, Vali started working in the Keep program for after-school care of elementary school students and later at Camp Iliff. He had a gift for engaging with kids of all ages and adults when he would actively listen to them without distraction. It made people want to be with him. Vali always loved making everyone laugh and was so easy to love.
He was very active and loved mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. Vali loved playing soccer until a misplaced knee from his opponent went straight to his eye crushing his orbital socket. That was the end of his soccer career.
As he got older many began calling him Val. He liked to work on his car and was always adding new gadgets but his real passion was being a medical first responder. Always calm under pressure with great skill to diagnose. He used his skills first as a nurse’s aide in the hospital and then moved into driving ambulances and working as a first responder.
Val became a dedicated and compassionate Emergency Medical Technician. Serving with pride at both Milford Fire Department EMS and Dingman Township EMS, Val was known for his unwavering commitment to helping others in their most vulnerable moments. Last month he was presented with “The Joe Estok Volunteer EMS Excellence Award” from the Milford Fire Department for his valued service. His keen sense of duty and selflessness made a significant impact on countless lives within the community he cherished.
In addition to his role as an EMT, Val was a member of the Milford Fire Department, where he continued to uphold his passion for service and community engagement. Colleagues and friends alike admired his bravery and the warm spirit he brought to every team he was part of.
Val will be lovingly remembered by his devoted parents, Ronald Hunsicker and David Niedosik, his sisters, Pamela and Danielle, his aunts and uncles, Tina and Gene Taylor, Pam and Bill Gallagher, Marianne and Bill Paal, his chosen siblings, Adam Capel and Kayla Melgarejo, his cousins and their children, and the many friends he made through both the ambulance and fire departments.
In the end this boy who started as a little handful grew into a big handful of love, joy, and pride for all who have had the honor of knowing him.
