George Borecky III Obituary

George Borecky Ill, 76, a longtime Milford resident and a dealer at Old Lumberyard Antiques, died on October 8, 2025, at the Montrose, NY, VA Health Center. He was the husband of Jacqueline Damian-Borecky.

George was born on March 6, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Edna (Phelps) and George Borecky Jr. He grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, developing a lifelong taste for Italian cooking and a love of music; as a teenager, he sang in streetcorner a capella groups and got involved in the burgeoning New York rock scene as a fledgling band manager.

He graduated from New Utrecht High School in 1967 and two years later was drafted into the Army. Following basic training, he was sent to Vietnam where he served as a cook for a combat battalion in the Central Highlands as a member of the 173rd Airborne.

Upon his discharge, George entered the electrician’s union and worked on many big construction projects in Manhattan and environs. In the late 1970s, he relocated to Dingmans Ferry, Pa., and began an antiques business. He moved to Milford in 1997, and had a shop in Forest Hall before joining the dealers at the Old Lumberyard cooperative shop.

George was a parishioner at Saint Patrick's Church in Milford and was an active member of the choir for over 20 years, singing baritone and bass. He served on the building committee for the new church and participated in various activities in Milford borough, helping to plant trees throughout town every year with the Milford Shade Tree Commission.

George was a tinkerer and had a knack for making and fixing things. He was constantly making improvements to his own home and renovated the house next door for his late mother-in-law to move into. In the 1990s he took flying lessons and obtained a private license. He loved golf, and played as often as possible at Cliff Park and other courses. He had a green thumb, and cared for a large flower garden and a bevy of orchids.

Besides his wife, Jackie, of Milford, survivors include his niece Cynthia Borecky Burtis of Hudson, Florida, and her children, Colton, Ahna and RJ; his brother-in-law Michael T. Damian and wife Lesley, of Columbus, Ohio; niece Rebecca Damian Burton and her children Claire and Henry; nephew Matt Damian and his wife, Diliana, and kids Michael, Leo and Maya; and many loving cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Audrey Borecky.

Friends may visit on Monday, October 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 14, at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick’s Church.
