John J. Nash, 95 years old, passed away peacefully on September 18,2025 at the Delaware Valley Personal Care Center with family at his side. He was the only son of Ethel (Wurm) and Walter H. Nash. He was born at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY on March 14, 1930. Many years later, 3 of his great-grandchildren were born there. He attended Holy Name Grammar School and graduated from St Francis Preparatory School. He took classes at NYU.
During his high school years, he enjoyed working as an orderly at local hospitals. He was a medic in the National Guard for 8 years. He held jobs at Ridgewood Savings Bank, and Atlantic Zinc, before working at IBM as a senior tax specialist for more than 37 years.
He married the love of his life, Doris M. Buchanan, on September 2, 1950. Their wedding rings were engraved 9/30/50 because he thought he was going to be called to serve in the Korean Conflict.
He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife of 70+ years, his son, Kenneth (37) and his daughter, Doris (60).
After moving to Carmel, NY he worked at Putnam Community Hospital on Saturdays and helped establish the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps and served as an EMT for more than 20 years.
While still working, John enrolled at St Joseph’s Seminary in one of the first Deaconate programs. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 24, 1986, at St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. He had the best of both worlds being an ordained Deacon and a father. He served at St James the Apostle in Carmel, NY for many years. Upon retirement he moved to Lords Valley, PA, serving at St John Neumann’s Parish. He also served as Pastoral Care Director at Bons Secours Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.
John is survived by his 5 remaining children: Karen (Bob) Villetto, John (Julie) Nash, Maryanne (Eric) Romanino, Michael (and former wife Ellen) Nash, Mark (Alice) Nash. Also, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed traveling with the many friends he made in Hemlock Farms. He taught us the love of God and the love of family. John will be greatly missed by all who have had the opportunity to know him.
The wake will be held at Stroyan’s Funeral Home, 405 W Harford St, Milford, PA on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St John Neumann’s Church, Lords Valley, PA on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 10:30 AM.
