Obituary of Patsy Thomas Monaco
Patsy Thomas Monaco, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Unionville, NY, surrounded by his loving family on the 27th of May. He was born June 3, 1943, in Middletown, NY, to the late Anthony and Mary (Bergen) Monaco. He was a graduate of Middletown High School where he participated in cross country track. He began his retail career at the young age of 16 where he worked at Sears Department Store on North Street. He remained at Sears for 33 years and then went to work for Dicks Sporting Goods and Walmart until he retired at the age of 65. In addition to retail, Patsy worked as a comptroller for over 45 years at the Orange County Fair Speedway for both the Speedway and the Fair Grounds.
Patsy had numerous hobbies that he enjoyed. He was an avid fisher, fishing in both fresh and salt water. He loved deep sea fishing with his sons and nephew. They made many trips out of the Long Island Sound with a private charter, Chance of a Lifetime. They also enjoyed going down to the Jersey Shore and going out on the Miss Belmar and Golden Eagle. Patsy would take his younger children to the lake for fishing lessons. He loved going to various dirt tracks speedways to follow the mighty modifieds with his sons Cody and Eric. Patsy began hunting deer at an early age and belonged to the Buck Horn Hunting Club in Forestburg, NY. He played softball as a pitcher in a league in Middletown and competed in the Neil B Turfler tournament for many years. He donated a plethora of hours umpiring to the Little League in Port Jervis, Middletown, and Minisink Valley.
In 1990 he married Victoria Howard, and they created a beautiful and blended family. He and his wife became foster parents for the Orange County Department of Social Services in June 1995 and welcomed over 66 children into their hearts and home. Patsy will be sadly missed by his devoted children and wife.
Patsy is survived by his wife Victoria of 35 years, his sons Pat of Westbrookville, Cody and his fiancé Sophia (Quarterone) of Pine Bush, Kyle and his fiancé Samantha (Rudy) of Milford, PA, Ryan and his companion, Naomi, of Bainbridge, NY, Eric, Jason, Ty, Brandon, Isaiah and Sebastian of Unionville, NY, his daughters Nicole, Julia and Natalie of Unionville, NY. His nephew Darrell, whom he loved as a son, and his companion Kim. His grandchildren Marc, Matt, Melissa, Leah, Chase, Emmelynn, Hailey, Steven, Everett, and Addison. His sister in law, Candi Dempsey and her fiancé, Andre of Alabama, his sister-in-law Kelli and her husband Robert Bennett, of North Carolina, son in law Dave Toonkel, of Rock Tavern and his brother Anthony and his wife Cam Monaco of Middletown, NY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, mother, and his daughter, Jodi.
Family will receive friends at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 12 to 1 PM. Memorial services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 1 PM.
