Denise Aber

Obituary of Denise Catherine Aber

Denise Catherine Aber, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and devoted caregiver, passed on May 5, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 78. She was born on January 25, 1947, in Port Jervis, New York, to the late Lawrence John Geiger and Catherine Lavinia Young (Shields).

She graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1964 and went on to study at The Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn Nursing School and graduated from there in 1968.

Denise dedicated her life to the service and care of others - both in her professional calling and within her family. A registered nurse for over 50 years, Denise’s career was nothing short of extraordinary. She worked across a wide spectrum of hospital departments as well as doctor's offices and home health care and was licensed in seven states. Whether she was delivering a new life into the world or standing at the bedside of those in need of critical care, Denise brought skill, empathy, and grace to every role she filled. Her commitment to healing touched countless lives.

That same devotion extended to her role as a mother. In her later years, as her own health challenges mounted, the care she once gave so freely was returned to her by those who loved her most. Her children remained by her side - honoring her legacy of compassion by doing everything they could to support her in her time of need. Throughout it all, she maintained a sense of humor and wit that brought smiles and laughter to her family and friends. She was strong, kind, funny, faithful and fearless.

Denise was predeceased by the love of her life, Charles Emil Aber; her sisters, Fern Naomi Lutfy and Laura Jeanne Geiger, and her stepsister, Susan Davis.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Aber and Elaine & Joseph Call of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her beloved grandchildren, Troy Call and his wife Abagaile, and Jason Call and his wife Brooklyn, all residing in Tennessee. Both couples are expecting children of their own, and Denise was overjoyed by the news that she would soon become a great-grandmother. Though she could not be here to welcome them in person, her love and spirit will be part of their lives from the very beginning.

Denise is also survived by her cherished nieces, Lisa Morgan of Milford, PA and Laurie Powrie of Port Jervis, NY, to whom she was deeply devoted. Their close bonds brought her endless pride and joy throughout her life.

Also surviving her is Thomas O’Connor, whom Denise lovingly referred to as her “son from another mother,” a dear and constant presence in her life whose care and friendship meant the world to her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Denise’s memory to Sage Hospice of Scottsdale, whose compassionate care meant so much to her and her family. Donations can be directed to:
