Obituary of Darryl Lew Thaler

With deep sadness the family of Darryl Thaler announces that he passed away after a long battle with cancer surrounded by loving family on April 21, 2025.

 

Darryl was born on October 15, 1941, in Niagara Falls, NY to Ida and Simon Thaler.

 

He left Niagara County during his teen years to live with his Aunt Mary and Uncle Harold Price in West Haverstraw, NY.  The entire family lovingly adopted him, and he lived there until he joined the US Navy in 1959.

 

Darryl served in the US Navy from December 17, 1959, to November 27, 1963. He later worked at Kay-Fries Chemical Plant in Stony Point before joining Orange and Rockland Utilities, He later retired to move from Stony Point, NY to  Hemlock Farms in Lords Valley PA in 2001.

 

Darryl was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed target shooting, going to the fitness center and going to lunch with his best friend John.

 

Darryl had an amazing vegetable garden, which he enjoyed tending to every day, He took pride in keeping his yard filled with flowers. He was a tool collector whose garage doors were open to all who might need anything. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a friend to all.  He enjoyed having long conversations with friends and family about almost any subject.

 

Darryl is predeceased by his mother Ida; father, Simon; stepfather, Robert Thaler, Sr.; brothers Mark Thaler and Don Thaler; and sister Doreen Hoholeck.

 

Darryl leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Dianne Thaler, (after over 62 years of marriage); his daughter, Debra Thaler; son, Don Thaler; brother, Robert Thaler, Jr. (Rose); and many nieces and nephews.

 

Darryl had a loving caring relationship with his niece, Linda and her husband David Olivo and nephews, Dante Pierson and Justin Olivo.

 

Donations in Darryl’s memory can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William Street in Dunmore, PA.
