John also had four step-children from his loving wife, Laura DeFlores Finkeldie, by whom he was predeceased. John will be dearly missed by his family and friends, especially those from the Matamoras R&G, Anglers, and philanthropic organizations he belonged to.

John was born on December 2, 1939 in Bayonne, N.J. to Mary Nahrebny and John Henry Finkeldie Sr., who were first generation Americans. John Jr.  was proud of his German-Ukrainian heritage and Ukrainian Orthodox religious upbringing.  He was a teacher in his early career having graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College in Jersey City, NJ.
