Brian E. Finnerty Obituary

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Ernest Finnerty of Milford, PA from Glioblastoma. A devoted loving husband, dear brother, uncle and best friend, Brian went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2026, leaving behind his beautiful smile and big heart. He touched everyone with his soft-spoken words, caring personality, gentleness, and sense of humor.

Brian was born on November 12, 1952, in Suffern, NY to the late William C. Finnerty and Margaret E. Finnerty (Balas) of Columbia, SC, formerly of Mahwah, NJ. He was preceded by his brother William (Billy) Finnerty of Mahwah, NJ.

Brian is survived by his loving and caring wife of 42 years, Janet Gloria Finnerty (Tester) of Milford, PA; loving sisters, Kathy  Kushler (twin sister) and her husband Frank Kushler of Waxhaw, NC, and Lizbeth Jones and her husband John Jones of Pawleys Island, SC; brothers-in-law, Richard Tester and his wife Debbie of Elmwood Park, NJ; Paul Tester and his wife Kathy of Oak Ridge, NJ; and James Tester and his wife Valerie of Haskell, NJ; many loving nieces and nephews and his loving pet Lop Rabbit, Charlie.

Jerry Amitrano and wife Patty, and Robert Amitrano and wife Suzanne, all from New Milford, NJ, were always there, by his side, for love and support and share a special friendship.

Upon graduation from Mahwah High School, Brian enlisted in the United States Navy in April of 1976. He served as a Journalist Third Class Petty Officer on the USS Jouett (CG-29).

Following his military service, he worked for Avon Products in Suffern, NY. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ramapo College and went into computers. Eventually, he found his love for tools and home improvements and worked at the Lowes Hampton Store in Newton, NJ until his retirement.

Brian loved the outdoors, hiking, bicycling, kayaking down the Delaware, and going for long walks. He loved woodworking, cutting firewood, playing scrabble, puzzles, and keeping busy. He loved spending time in Cape May, NJ every year. November Christmas 2025 made him the happiest with his family. He was a member of Saint Patrick’s Church in Milford, PA, where he made many wonderful, caring friends.
